Dr. Lekshmi Raj, who has taken Doctorate in genetics
from Weslyan University. Now working in, and doing
post- Doctorate in Genetics, in Harward. Her husband
Gopal Raj is the Science Correspondent of The Hindu.

Delhi University)

Post Graduate from Delhi University in Intellectual
Property Laws. Husband K.Sabarinath, M.A., M.Phil (JNU),

Professional Details
Was apprentice under P.Govindan Nair (1954), who
later became Chief Justice of Kerala and Tamil Nadu
High Court. Enrolled as Advocate in 1955. Worked in
Menon & Pai, a legal firm and legal Advisers to many
of the Commercial firms in Kerala.
Appointed Government Pleader in the High Court of
Kerala (1969). Legal Advisor to the Kerala
Agricultural University (1970-1981) and other mass
social organizations like S.N.D.P. Yogam and
S.N.Trust.
Received cash award and Certificate of appreciation
from Government of Kerala for meritorious work done
as Government Pleader.
Appeared in the Pioneer Environmental litigation
(1975) on behalf of Silent Valley Protection
Society.
Attended to legal work in New York and Kulalampur,
Malayesia. Practised extensively in Taxation area.
Acted as legal counsel to several cashew and shrimp
exporters in Kerala.
1981 Elevated Judge, Kerala High Court.
1990 Transferred to Bombay High Court when his wife
K.K.Usha was elevated as Judge of Kerala High Court.
Practising as Senior Advocate in Supreme Court.
Honours
Elected as President of Sree Narayana Kendra, Delhi
(Sri K.R.Narayanan, Justice V.R.Krishna Iyer of
Supreme Court were some of his predecessors in
office).
Legal Advisor to National Open School, Delhi.
Honoured with an award from the State Literacy
Council – The Kerala Sahitya Academy for 2002 for
the best book of essays ‘Life and Law’ (Jeevithavum
Niyamavum).
Elected President of Indian Society of Authors.
Presented papers in Seminars organized by National
Institutions like the Calicut University (on
copyright) Forest Research Institutions, Peechi
(Bamboos and the laws) The Salim Ali Ornithology
Institute, Coimbatore, The S.N.University,
Tirunelveli (Human Rights and Implementation at the
Grass Root Level) and the Intellectual Conclave on
Ayurveda and Legal Problems).
Functioned as Chairman of the Indian Law Reports (Kerala
Series). Was Chairman, and their Committee, Sree
